CDFSIZE (c) 1992 Karl Schneider
8505 Woodwick Ct.
For Wildcat! 3.x+ ONLY! Tampa, FL 33615

CDFSIZE is a Wildcat! 3.x+ utility to place the correct file SIZE
into the WC ALLFILES.DAT records for files on a CD-ROM when
0 byte length (and 00:00 download time) is in the WC database. This
condition sometimes occurs when the sizes aren't available in
the CD directory, or when they somehow fail to get picked up by
WCFILE or whatever utility is used to add them to the WC database.
CDFSIZE simply reads your Wildcat 3.0 database and picks out files
flagged as 'on CD-ROM' that have 0 for the filesize. When such files
are found, it checks its filesize and writes it into the appropriate
record in ALLFILES.DAT.
FOR YOUR OWN PROTECTION, MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF 'ALLFILES.DAT' BEFORE
RUNNING CDFSIZE. IF YOU DO THIS, THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO CHANCE OF
DAMAGING ANY DATABASE INFORMATION! ALLFILES.DAT IS GENERALLY
\WC30\DATA . CHECK MAKEWILD IF YOU'RE NOT SURE WHERE IT IS.
To use CDFSIZE, just CD to your Wildcat! home directory and type
CDFSIZE.
If you wish, add the '>' redirection so that you can
review which files were processed later...like this:
CDFSIZE > cdgifs.lst
^^^^^^^^^^ pick an unused filename of your choice here
that you can 'type' or 'list' later on...
You can interrupt the program at any time by pressing ESC.
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
CDFSIZE DOES operate in 'share' mode, and should run on networks
with no problem, HOWEVER: If you have a LARGE NUMBER of files
on CD-ROM and want to use this utility, I would suggest you do it
with ALL NODES DOWN. It should not cause any conflicts, but could
possibly slow a multi-node system appreciably, since it must read
the ENTIRE ALLFILES.DAT file from Wildcat, and update ALL RECORDS
to which it applies! At any rate, it should be needed only ONE TIME
...or at least only when adding new CD-ROMs.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Missing or defective files will skipped, and a short notice to that
effect will be printed (or re-directed if you use the '>' as above.)
I have tested this program as thoroughly as I have been able to, and
have not detected any problem, but as with any software, wide
variations in system configurations can sometimes cause unexpected or
unforseeable results. For this reason, I make no warranties with
respect to this program as to its usability, safety to data, or any
results deriving from its use, and accept no responsibility for any
loss or damages directly or indirectly caused by using it.
If you experience any problem with CDFSIZE, please do this:
1. Copy your BACKED-UP ALLFILES.DAT back into the proper WC area.
(Again, typically C:\WC30\DATA)
2. Let me know as soon as practical.
If this program is useful to you, a modest registration is in order. If
you contribute $35 or more, you will be entitled to support on ALL
my WC3 utilities. (That's less than $1 apiece!)
Any bug reports, comments or suggestion are solicited and welcome! Thanks.
